¡Supplementary Income Payments
The Japanese government is planning to provide Supplementary Income Payments (teigaku-kyufukin) to all residents, including registered foreign nationals. Only those foreign nationals that have completed Alien Registration and are registered with
their local municipality by February 1, 2009 will be eligible; those with Temporary Visitor status or those who are staying illegally will not be eligible.
šHow Much?
All eligible residents will each be able to receive 12,000 Yen. However, residents who are 18 or under (born after February 1, 1990) or 65 or older (born before February 3, 1944) will be eligible for 20,000 Yen.
Families with more than once child (aged 18 or under - born after April 1, 1990) can also receive an additional one-off child support payment (Žqˆç‚ĉž‰‡“Á•ÊŽè“–) kosodate-ouen-tokubetsu-teate) of 36,000 Yen for each child, except the first-born child, born between April 2,
2002 and April 1, 2005.

šHow to Apply
Each local municipality will be responsible for distributing the cash handouts, and the distribution period and method will vary depending upon the local municipality.
For residents of Nagoya City, starting from May 11, application forms will be mailed out to the heads of households and individually to each eligible foreign national. Recipients should double-check any personal details, fill in their bank account
information, and mail back the form in the enclosed pre-paid return envelope.
The City will start depositing payments into accounts at the end of May. If you are not in possession of a domestic bank account, you will be able to collect the handout in cash in late July. Applications will not be accepted after
November 11, 2009.
