Alien Registration

All foreign nationals intending to remain in Japan for 90 days or more (or 60 days in the case of infants born in Japan) must follow alien registration procedures and obtain an alien registration card. Foreign nationals 16 years of age and older must carry their alien registration card with them at all times.
To register, go to the Shiminka (Residents' Affairs Division) of your local ward office, or to its branch office. Nagoya City ward offices and branch offices are open Monday to Friday 8:45-17:15 and closed on Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays.
