The Road Transport Vehicle Law requires that vehicle owners bring in their vehicles for regular inspections. There are two inspection methods: 1) bring your vehicle to a nearby vehicle maintenance shop, or to
the dealer who sold you your vehicle, for an inspection as well as for regular vehicle maintenance, or 2) bring your vehicle to the vehicle inspection site directly after completing all necessary maintenance items by yourself ("user vehicle inspection").
Timing of inspection: Every three years for new vehicles, then every two years. A sticker attached to the windshield indicates the time of the next vehicle inspection. Confirm the exact timing of the inspection of your vehicle on the Inspection Certificate.
Documents to submit: Inspection Certificate, your personal seal, Jibaiseki insurance premium (jibaiseki = Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance), vehicle weight tax, vehicle maintenance records, Jibaiseki certificate, and vehicle tax payment
certificate (receipt for vehicle weight tax).
