Mobile telephones
You can purchase a mobile telephone at an electric appliance store or at a mobile telephone agent. The method of payment is determined at the time of purchase, so if you don't speak Japanese, bring along someone who understands Japanese. Different phone
companies offer different rates and services.
If you want to make international calls with your mobile phone, you must conclude a contract with an international long-distance telephone company .
Documents required: Alien registration card, passport, and bank passbook (if the phone charges are to be withdrawn automatically)

Personal Handyphone System (PHS) Companies
Unlike mobile phones, PHS phones have a limited service area, and they do not work well in fast-moving vehicles. However, their rates are 20% to 25% of mobile phone rates.
