This pass allows extensive use of JR rail lines throughout the country for an incredibly low fare. Japan Rail Passes are valid on the following modes of transportation: All JR Group Railways, Shinkansen “bullet trains”, limited express trains, express trains, and rapid or local trains (with some exceptions) and JR Highway Bus Lines.

Those people eligible to purchase the rail pass:
* Foreign tourists with “Temporary Visitor Visas”.
* Japanese nationals living in a foreign country who:
* Have permanent residency in a foreign country;
* Are married to a non-Japanese residing in a country other than Japan.
　

 Please note that individuals meeting the above requirements must show proof of same when purchasing an “Exchange Order” (to later be traded for the Japan Rail Pass).

Where to purchase “Exchange Orders”
The Japan Rail Passes cannot be purchased inside Japan. You must purchase an “Exchange Order” from an authorized sales office or agent before entering Japan. Exchange Orders can be purchased from the following JR authorized sales offices and agents: JTB, Nihon Ryoko, Kinki Nihon Tourist, JAL (only for sale to JAL passengers) and ANA (All Nippon Airways). Please note that once the pass has a starting date written on it, the date cannot be altered, and in the case of loss, a new ticket cannot be re-issued.
