To get a taxi, you can flag down a taxi on the street, go to a taxi stand, or call a taxi company directly. You can flag down any taxi displaying a "vacant" sign on the right side of the windshield. If you are not confident about speaking Japanese, have someone
write down the address of your destination to show the driver. You do not have to open or close the door, as the driver controls it automatically.
The taxi fare is a combination of the basic flat rate and the time and distance rate (basic rate is 610yen per 1.8 km). The fare is displayed on a meter to the left of the driver. Fares increase by 20 percent between 23:00 and 5:00.
