Measles cases reported in Nagoya City

Measles symptoms

Around 10 days after infection, cold-like symptoms appear, such as fever, coughing, and runny nose. 2 to 3 days of fever is followed by a high fever (39℃ or more) and a rash. Complications can include pneumonia and middle ear infection, and brain inflammation occurs in 1 patient per 1000.

Route of infection

The measles virus is highly infectious and transmitted from person to person via airborne infection, droplet infection, or direct contact. The disease is thought to be most infectious from 1 day prior to the onset of symptoms to 3 days after the alleviation of fever.

If you have symptoms you suspect are measles-related, please contact a medical treatment facility and inform staff that you suspect you have measles BEFORE going to the facility, follow the directions of staff and consult a doctor promptly. Additionally, when traveling to your consultation, please avoid using public transport to prevent the spread of infection.

※Measles = はしか (hashika), also 麻しん (mashin)
