■Enjoy Miso Katsu in Nagoya
Miso Katsu みそかつis the Nagoya area version of tonkatsu 豚カツ - a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet one to two centimeters thick and sliced into bite-sized pieces, generally served with shredded cabbage. It was originally considered a type of yo-shoku, a
Japanese version of European cuisine invented in the late 1800s and early 1900s, but has become more Japanese over time shortening its name from katsu-retsu ("cutlet") to katsu.
 Instead of the regular, thick sauce that comes with tonkatsu, in Nagoya and the surrounding area, a miso-based sauce known as Hacchoumiso 八丁味噌 - usually home-made, is
used.
★Standard Dishes
(Miso) Katsudon （みそ）カツ丼 - bowl of white rice topped with a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet in a tonkatsu or miso sauce.
Kushi-katsu串カツ - is a Japanese-style of deep-fried kabob. They are usually made with chicken or pork skewered on bamboo kushi and deep-fried in vegetable oil. They can be served straight, or with tonkatsu or miso sauce.

★Where to Go?
There are several good miso-katsu restaurants in Nagoya. Remember, miso is an acquired taste. If it doesn’t appeal to you, many miso katsu restaurants also have tonkatsu on the menu.
