This month wefll introduce several books from the Literature and Language (LIT) section as part of our introduction to the various subject areas in the reading room of the library. The LIT section consists of more than 160 volumes which include various types of literature - short stories, anthologies, essays, quotations, anecdotes, literary criticism, etc. along with books on language, linguistics and writing.

Among the many collections of short stories and tales are the popular Night Out/ Night In series including Girlsf Night Out/ Boysf Night In which feature writers Kathy Lette, Josie Lloyd, Fiona Walker, Mike Gayle, Mark Barrowcliffe, Emlyn Rees and many more. Stories from many countries are also represented. Among the more popular are Irish Girls About Town which include stories by Maeve Binchy, Marian Keyes and Cathy Kelly along with 13 other Irish women authors. Another popular collection titled 100 NZ Short Stories features the very short works of 89 New Zealand authors including such well-known ones as Patricia Grace, Owen Marshall and Witi Ihimaera, as well as several interesting new writers.

Recently we have been fortunate to acquire The Library of Americafs seven-volume collection of Henry James writings, essays, novels and literary criticism.

Among our widely read books on writing and linguistics are Michael C. Smith and Suzanne Greenbergfs Everyday Creative Writing: Panning for Gold in the Kitchen Sink and Introducing Linguistics by R.L. Trask and Bill Maybin.
