洪水・内水ハザードマップを読もう

Flood hazard maps for each ward are available to download from the City of Nagoya website. To find the right one, you'll need to know the kanji for your ward.
Here, we will look at some expressions to help you navigate the map itself and find out the flood risk for your area.

洪水 kōzui (flood, caused by the bursting of a river bank, etc. Also called 外水氾濫 / gaisui hanran)

内水 naisui (flooding caused when the volume of water from torrential rain is more than drains and sewers can handle. Also referred to as 内水氾濫 / naisui hanran.)

ハザードマップ hazādo mappu (hazard map)

~川 ~kawa/gawa (~ river)

氾濫 hanran (overflow, flood)

~した場合 ~ shita ba'ai (in the case that ~)

河川の氾濫が予測された場合に、避難勧告などが発令されます。
Kasen no hanran ga yosoku sareta ba'ai ni, hinan kankoku nado ga hatsurei saremasu.
(If a river is expected to overflow, an evacuation order, etc. will be issued.)

避難などの参考にしてください。 Hinan nado no sankō ni shite kudasai. (Please refer to this when evacuating, etc.)

大雨 oame (heavy rain)

~による ~ ni yoru (due to)

浸水 shinsui (inundation, flooding)

大雨警報が発表された場合などに浸水が予想されます。 Ōame keihō ga happyō sareta ba'ai nado ni shinsui ga yosō saremasu. (When a heavy rain warning is issued, inundation is predicted to occur.)
