From September, new sport and cultural activities provided by a private operator will begin in 133 municipal elementary schools in 8 wards (Nishi, Nakamura, Atsuta, Minato, Minami, Moriyama, Meito and Tempaku Wards). Children will be able to choose activities such as sports or music from a menu, and enjoy themselves while experiencing the activity over the year. Activities will be available for 3 days per week between Tuesday and Friday. Children can select one of two activities available each day, and participate in up to 3 activities. Activities will be held at school, on the sports ground, in the gymnasium, or in other school buildings. Instruction will be provided by at least 2 instructors from the operator's staff.
The new sport and cultural activities will provide children with the opportunity to experience a greater variety of sport and cultural activities, which is considered preferable due to the anticipated balanced development it will foster in children, whose nervous systems are still at the developmental stage, and activities will broaden each child's potential. Participation is not compulsory, but recommended as a way to build stamina and enhance health, and foster a deeper humanity.
The Nagoya Club Activities Human Resources Bank (Nagoya Bukatsudo Jinzai Bank) has also been set up for instructors and assistants in running activities. Those interested in becoming an instructor or assistant are welcome to register. Instructors should have experience with sports or music (e.g. choir or musical instrument performance), and be available to supervise children at elementary schools between 15:00 and 18:00 Tuesday to Friday. (Instruction and safety management training provided.)
