Students attending a school, such as a university, graduate school, junior college, or high school, may, upon application, postpone (temporarily stop)the payment of contributions while at school. Eligible students are required to reapply every year.
*Students whose income for the previous year is equal to or less than a certain amount are eligible.
Where to apply:
・Health Insurance and Pension Division at a ward office(区役所保険年金課)or Residents' Welfare Division at a branch office of the ward (支所区民福祉課) where you live
・Your local Japan Pension Service Branch Office
Required documents for application:
- Application Form for National Pension Contribution Special Payment System for Students
- Basic Pension Number Notice or Pension Handbook
- A document to verify student status, e.g. your student ID card "GAKUSEISHO" or original certificate of student status "ZAIGAKUSHOMEISHO".
