Miya Matsuri (三谷祭)

MiyaMatsuri_300x200.jpgFour highly decorative yama (山車 / floats) are pulled through the streets between Yatsurugi Shrine and Wakamiya Shrine in this annual festival in Gamagōri City. The main attraction for spectators is on Sunday morning, when the floats enter the ocean and are pulled by hundreds of men through a 300m stretch of water (from 10:45).


When: Sat. 26 Oct. and Sun. 27 Oct.
Where: Various sites including Yatsurugi Shrine (八劔神社), Wakamiya Shrine (若宮神社), and the beach beside Miya Onsen (三谷温泉) in Miya-chō (三谷町), Gamagōri City (蒲郡市)
Access: Between 3 and 20 minutes' walk from JR Mikawa-Miya Sta. (三河三谷駅, CA46) on the JR Tōkaidō Line (JR東海道本線).
