Types of small household electric appliances that can be collected have increased (小型家電の対象品目を増やしました)

Small household appliances within dimensions 15cm (H) x 40cm (W) x 25cm (D) can be collected at 72 locations around the city, including ward offices, branch offices, environmental affairs offices, general supermarkets, etc.

Main types:

・Mobile phones, smartphones
・Notebook computers
・Digital cameras
・Game consoles
・Electric shavers
Portable fans (NEW)
Electric tools (NEW)


Other examples:

Telephones, calculators and electronic dictionaries, flashlights, CD players, radios, hair dryers, USB flash drives and related peripheral items and accessories


Not classed as small household electric appliances:

Televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, light bulbs / fluorescent tubes, batteries


The way to dispose of batteries has changed (電池の出し方が変わりました)

As of July 2022, all types of batteries can now be collected at once.


Eligible types:  

・Alkaline, manganese dry cell batteries
・Lithium batteries
・Button cell batteries
・Mobile batteries
・Compact rechargeable batteries (Lithium-ion batteries, Ni-cad batteries, Nickel-hydrogen batteries)
*Items without the 3-arrow mark can also be collected


Exceptions:  

Automotive batteries and other lead-acid batteries
*Please consult a lead-acid battery retailer for assistance to dispose of automotive batteries.


How to dispose of batteries:

Step 1 - Insulate each battery

Be sure to attach adhesive tape to the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals to prevent any electrical flow

Step 2 - Place the batteries in a transparent bag, or semi-transparent bag in which the contents will be visible
*City-designated waste disposal bags cannot be used!

Step 3 - Put out on collection day for plastic containers and packaging, keeping batteries separate from plastic containers and packaging
*Don't put batteries in the same bag as plastic containers and packaging!


Caution: Recyclable batteries mixed with other waste and recyclable materials can cause fires in collection vehicles or at waste processing facilities!
