About the Senior Citizens' Pass (Keirō Pass) (敬老パスについて)

The City of Nagoya issues a Senior Citizen's Pass (Keirō Pass / 敬老パス) allowing the holder free travel on Nagoya City Bus, Subway and other services.

A fee is required for issue of the Keirō Pass.

Design

The card is gold and bears the expiration date and name of the holder (in katakana).

Eligibility

Residents of Nagoya aged 65 and older (foreign nationals included)

How to use the Keirō Pass

To ride, touch the Keirō Pass IC card on the sensor at Subway wicket gates and on City Buses until it beeps.

Load the card with up to 20,000 Yen value to use as electronic money to purchase goods and travel on private transport services.

*Using the Keirō Pass on the Kamiiida Line between Kamiiida (K01 / KM13) and Ajima (KM12)

When traveling between Kamiiida Sta. and Ajima Sta., use cash, etc. to charge the Keirō Pass beforehand. You can then submit an application, and have the appropriate fare reimbursed at a later date.

Issuance procedure

The Keirō Pass is issued by post. The following procedures are required.

Eligible persons

Procedure

Persons about to turn 65 years old

  • You will be sent information on the application procedure around three months before your birth month.
  • If the fee is paid by the date specified, you will be sent a Keirō Pass valid for one year, from the day before your birth date, to the day two days before your birth date of the following year.

Persons aged 65 or older who do not have a Keirō Pass (including persons who have moved to Nagoya City from another municipality)

  • Inquire at the Welfare Division of your local ward office or Residents' Welfare Division of your local branch office. It will take about one month for the Keirō Pass to be delivered after payment of the fee.

Fee

The issuance fee applicable varies according to the following categories.

Period of validity of the Keirō Pass
  • The Keirō Pass is valid for one year from the start date indicated on the card.
  • The holder will be sent information on how to renew the card one month prior to the expiration of the Keirō Pass.
  • The renewal procedure for the Keiro Pass can be carried out at Nagoya City Subway stations, ward offices, or post offices, from 29 days prior to the expiration of the current card.

Keirō Pass Interim Travel Card

After paying the fee, you will be given an Interim Travel Card (rinji jōsha-shō /臨時乗車証) to be used from the day before your 65th birthday until your Keirō Pass arrives.

  • If your Keiro Pass can be delivered prior to the day before your 65th birthday (i.e. the fee was paid by the designated date), you will not be given an Interim Travel Card.
  • Please note that the Interim Travel Card cannot be used prior to the day before the holder's 65th

Issuance procedure

Post offices within Nagoya City

  • When payment is made at a post office, the Interim Travel Card will be issued.

*Payment counter and issuing counter differ at some post offices.

  • At Nagoya Chuo Post Office, Nagoya Naka Post Office, Chikusa Post Office, Showa Post Office, Nakamura Post Office, Midori Post Office, Nakagawa Post Office, and Moriyama Post Office, pay at the Japan Post Bank counter, and Interim Travel Pass will be issued at the postal service counter.

Financial institutions (other than Japan Post Bank)

  • Present the fee receipt and proof of identity at the Welfare Division of your local ward office (or Residents' Welfare Division of your local branch office), and the Interim Travel Pass will be issued.

Reissuance due to theft, disaster or loss

Please inquire at the Welfare Division of your local ward office or Residents' Welfare Division of your local branch office.

Caution
  • The Keirō Pass is valid only for the person whose name it bears. Transfer to another person or use as collateral is strictly prohibited.
  • Use by or transfer to any other person, or use as collateral, will result in additional fees in addition to the confiscation of and denial of future issuance of the Keirō Pass.
  • Be sure to carry your Senior Citizen's Handbook (keirō techō / 敬老手帳) when using the Keirō Pass, and present it to staff when requested to do so.

Transfer to Welfare Special Pass (free)

Persons who meet the conditions for eligibility for the Welfare Special Pass (fukushi tokubetsu jōshaken / 福祉特別乗車券, free) can change their Keirō Pass to the Welfare Special Pass.
