【NEW】I live in Nagoya City. What types of health checkups (Kenko Shindan) are available? (名古屋市に住んでいます。どんな健康診断が受けられますか?)

2025.07.29

Q:

I live in Nagoya City. What types of health checkups (Kenko Shindan) are available?

A:

The types of health checkups and the procedures for taking them vary depending on your occupation, such as whether you are an employee or are self-employed.

If you are an employee (a person employed by a company, etc.)

・You will be enrolled in Shakai Hoken, Japan's social insurance system. This system includes several types of insurance, such as those provided by Kyokai Kenpo (the Japan Health Insurance Association), health insurance societies, and mutual aid associations.

In such case:

(1) Employees are required by law to undergo a health checkup once a year.

(2) Companies are required to have their employees undergo a health checkup once a year.

*As for non-regular employees, including part-time or contract workers, different conditions may apply, so you will need to check with your company.

<Procedure before undergoing a health checkup>

(1) Your company will send you information about health checkups and how to apply.

(2) Follow the instructions from your company and choose the hospital and type of health checkup that you would like to receive. For more details, please contact the person in charge at your company directly.

For self-employed/freelancers, etc.

・You will be enrolled in Japan's National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken).

In such case:

・A health checkup is not mandatory. So, anyone wishing to receive a checkup must apply for it themselves.

<Procedure before undergoing a health checkup>

(1) Eligible individuals will receive a notification of their health checkup (a "health checkup voucher" and a "health checkup information (pamphlet)" by mail from Nagoya City once a year (mainly for individuals aged 40 or older).

(2) Decide whether or not to undergo a group health checkup.

・If you would like to receive a group health checkup (Shudan Kenshin):

Make a reservation in advance at the Group Health Checkup Reservation Reception Center (by phone (Japanese): 052-211-8655, or online (Japanese): https://www.mrso.jp/gov/aichi/nagoya-naka/index/)

・If you would like to receive a health checkup individually rather than as part of a group:

Choose a hospital from the list of cooperating medical institutions included in the "health checkup information (pamphlet)" enclosed in the mailing, and call to apply.

 *When applying, please be sure to specify the name of the desired health checkup.

(3) On the day of your health checkup, bring your health checkup voucher (sent to you by mail as described in (1)) and your health insurance card.
