Q:

[Series 2] I live in Nagoya City. What should I do if I want to send the body or ashes of a deceased family member to my home country?

A:

When sending a body or ashes to a foreign country, you must complete not only the procedures required in Japan, but also the procedures required for acceptance in your home country.
Since the required documents and regulations vary depending on the country, you should first contact your home country's embassy or consulate for confirmation.

It is also a good idea to consult a funeral company that handles international transport as early as possible. Here, however, we will explain the general flow of the procedures as basic information.

(1) When sending the body to your home country

<Main flow>

<What to check and prepare>

Check if embalming*1 (treatment to prevent the body from decomposing) is required.

Check the requirements and conditions of the airline.

* Depending on the country, it may not be possible for the body to be accepted.
