Kawara Museum/Library of Takahama City Special Exhibition "Age of Tokin Tokin"(高浜市やきものの里 かわら美術館・図書館企画展「トキントキンの時代」)

2025.10.19

"Edgy" art that decorated the city.

Tracing the paths of artists in 1970s Takahama.

An exhibition focusing on the artists who were involved in creating the ceramic mural for the former Takahama City Hall in 1977. When Takahama City was founded in 1970, Japan was at a turning point in its society. During this period, artists in Takahama sought new possibilities of expression through ceramics and painting while also working to draw on and preserve local traditions. Later, their works developed and were set up as ceramic monuments in public spaces around the city. This exhibition also introduces some of those monuments. "Tokin Tokin," in the exhibition title, is a phrase from the Aichi dialect meaning "edgy," symbolizing the artists' challenging spirit. Through their works, the exhibition revisits the Tokin Tokin era and explores the ways its spirit leads into the future.
