Iwase Bunko Library: Special Exhibition, 100th Anniversary Commemorative Exhibition (Part 2) "Publishing Culture in the Edo Period and Tsutaya Juzaburo--Edo's books are so much fun!"(西尾市岩瀬文庫 企画展100回記念特別展(後期) 「江戸の出版文化と蔦屋重三郎~楽しすぎるよ!江戸の本~」)
2025.11.30
During the Edo Period, which saw the flourishing of commercial publishing, an unprecedented number of books were published compared to previous eras. During that time, kibyoshi illustrated books and ukiyo-e prints published by Tsutaya Juzaburo and many other publishers served as entertainment for the common people, enriching their lives. These books are packed with stories that parody old tales and feature characters full of humor, allowing readers to enjoy them through reading and viewing. This exhibition is the second part of the 100th special exhibition, featuring books from the collection of the Iwase Bunko Library that captivated readers at the time, including works created by Juzaburo.
